Learn the River

The Hiwassee River provides one of the most diverse fisheries in the Southeast, sure to appease every angler whether they're chasing big browns, stocked rainbows, the elusive brookies, or ever striper and walleye.

There's ample roadside access from the Powerhouse boat ramp all the way down to the Big Bend parking area where the trail begins. From there you can follow a trail (or float) down to the Childer's Creek parking area

TWRA stocks Brook, Brown, and Rainbow trout regularly from the Powerhouse Boat Ramp to the L&N Railroad Bridge. From October 1st through the last day of February is the delayed harvest season which is catch and release only and from March 1st through September 30th the limit is 7 trout per day with only 2 being brown trout.

If mountain streams are more your speed instead of big tailwaters, never fear. We've got you covered. Big Lost Creek, Goforth Creek, Greasy Creek, Tumbling Creek, Spring Creek, and Turtletown Creek are all just a short drive away and are also stocked throughout the spring. If it's more elusive trout you seek, Gee Creek is a wild trout stream just a few minutes down river that feeds into the Hiwassee.
